Life is like going down a river. You know
where you want to go and that's your goal.
Sometimes, you get
sidetracked by some interesting things on the banks of the river.
You stop for a while to check it out. Some people get lost
when they check out the interesting thing and they forget to get
back to the boat. Those things are sometimes called "being
too busy" or "getting caught up", but really they are excuses
for not getting back in the boat, because the longer you're
away, the more afraid you are of getting back in because you
know that somewhere down that crazy river of life, there are
some rapids.
Sometimes, you stop on the side because
you feel you need a break when in fact you're making it worse
for yourself because the end of your trip is where all
the rewards await you.
But some of us eventually get back in the
boat and you come across those rapids and the ride is rough.
It's not a matter of controlling the river but really
enjoying the ride because the trip is where the fun lies.
Once you arrive at your destination, you can
relax and enjoy the scenery. The trip or the journey is what makes
the destination what it is not the destination alone. The
destination alone is empty and without substance. But if you had
an interesting trip along the way, you can relax and enjoy the
trip in retrospect.
