She's having a bad day at work... and then Mom drops by.
Had a tough time with the casting of this film. There was to be
2 male parts but one of the actors that I wanted for this film wasn't available for
the day that I wanted to shoot, so I cut out a character. Then my lead actress
had to bow out a couple of days before the shoot so I had to find a last
minute replacement. It all worked out because Aysara was suppose to be
part of the crew so I just switched her over. She did a great job.
And then there was me. I had wanted to cast myself for a while
but I wanted to get some experience before I went and did it because I knew it
would be difficult.
Ha! It was way more difficult than I had first anticipated.
Keep in mind that I wasn't able to find a DP or camera operator so I was both
behind and in front of the camera at the same time. I won't do it again. If
I'm going to put myself in front of the camera, then I'm going to make sure that
I have someone I can trust behind the camera. So it won't be for a while.
I stayed up part of the night making sandwiches for the
crew as I knew it would be a longer day then just half a day, so I had to be
prepared. I thought I would have someone helping me with the sandwiches, but
that fell through as well.
I was only able to find 2 crew members as well. I had a third
that couldn't make it at the last minute.
So, October 2nd, production day. I wake up at 5am to a downpour
outside. I started making calls to see if I could postpone the shoot one day
in hopes of better weather. Not everyone was available so I had to move forward
and hope for the best. Of course I wasn't on anybody's good side at this point.
We did makeup at my place and headed out in the rain. By the time
we started shooting, the rain had died down to a spit. Thank GOD! The frustrating
thing is that by the end of the shoot it was bright and sunny. So much for
continuity. But what can you do? Mother nature does what she wants.
Other than that, we had to deal with the cold but I think
all in all we had a lot of fun. Although I must admit, it was extremely stressful
for me, but I don't think I've had a shoot yet that wasn't. I loved it anyway. :)
Editing
Argh! This was a very difficult feat. I didn't have
any coverage, what I shot was lousy and the sound was horrendous. I had
to ADR and foley the whole movie. I know I could have done better if
I had started off with better stuff. Huge lesson learned.
